The Big Sandy Fire Department as a Non-Profit organization receives no money from the tax rolls the department relies on applying and receiving various grant money along with the donations from community and from the Chili Feed. The Chili Feed takes place on the last Friday in September or the first Friday of October, during a home football game, it all begins the fire whistle blows at four o'clock allowing the public to come join the fun. The department cooks up a donated beef every year for the community, they also serve hot dogs and of course chili. The main thing that keeps the Chili Feed going is the chance the children get when they can ride on the fire trucks. They are also allowed to ride in cab, ringing the siren and yelling in the PA system. They also host a raffle where they raffle off normally two halves of beef, two halves of pork, fire extinguishers, CO2 detectors/smoke alarms, and various gift certificates from local businesses. The Feed last till about seven o'clock when the football game starts. The department relies heavely on the donations recived at the Chili Feed, it allows us to conduct our every day business.
